AMAs

Happy Monday friends!

I can't seem to shake this cold/cough/oh-please-don't-let-it-be-bronchitis-or-worst... Needless to say I've had to take it easy lately and embrace the pastime of being a couch potato. With the American Music Awards happening last night, I welcomed the act of "vegging" with open arms like a long lost friend.

I tuned into E! at 6pm to catch their red carpet coverage, partially as a passive viewer but mostly as a student of the industry; to take notes, observe what works and notice what sticks out like a sore thumb. One day I hope to have the opportunity to host a red carpet of that caliber - snagging one on ones with music's finest and having it broadcast to 100+ countries worldwide. Dream big, right?

Alright, here's my recap of last nights award show - performances, fashion, awkward moments and a good dose of the feelies.

ENJOY!

Top 3 Performances

#1 - Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas has done a stellar job of shedding his boy band image, the kid has gone solo and he's nailing it. Last night he took to the stage and did a 3 song medley giving viewers a dose of Chains, Levels and Jealous. Entertaining from the start, he decided to step it up a notch mid-performance and showcase his drumming skills and then ended with an energetic and uber talented choir group.

#2 - The Weeknd

Abel and his hair lit up the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, literally. Looking cool, calm and collected, The Weeknd made Canadians proud with his hit single, "The Hills."  Side note - how is he not sweating?!

#3 - Justin Bieber

From one Canadian to another... (Can you tell I'm proud to be Canadian?) Justin Bieber has focused much of 2015 on giving his image and reputation a fresh new start, so last night was an important one for the 21 year old hailing from Stratford, Ontario. Justin closed down the AMA's, as the last performance of the night and he certainly made a splash. (LOL, my humour is so bad it's almost funny.) Bad jokes aside, I'm loving his new album, Purpose, and thought he did a great job!

Fashion Moments of the Night

# 1 - Gigi Hadid

There is so much to love about this look; head to toe. Her bob is a refreshing departure from her typical Cali-girl beach hair, the minimal make-up is both sophisticated yet youthful, and her custom made outfit by Bao Tranchi is DIVINE. This look screams part angel, part bond girl. WERK.

Update on the hairdo: Gigi is actually rocking a WIG. She still has those long locks!

# 2 - Selena Gomez

SLAY GIRL, SLAY! Selena Gomez was rocking a bedazzled one-piece with confidence, sass and a killer fit body while she sang her latest single, "Same Old Love." I love that she paired the sparkly number with booties; cute and comfortable.

# 3 - Nicki Minaj

To be honest, it's rare that Miss Minaj tops my list of favourite fashion moments from award shows, but she took my breath away in this gorgeous Michael Costello blush gown with gold embellishments and cut-outs that had most people doing double takes. The heavy cat-eye liner added the perfect amount of FEIRCE to complete the look.

Well THAT was awkward...

# 1- Gwen Stefani

Gwen has always lived life, her way. Usually I'm a fan of her artistic and creative choices but last night just felt all kinds of awkward at the American Music Awards. It wasn't watching and listening to her sing a break-up ballad that felt off necessarily, I think it was more the fact that the background was made up of 4 sad-looking Gwens during the entire performance... Sorry :(

# 2 - Make-out session with Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor

Alright, so if you didn't catch this, here are the coles notes: Meghan sang her heart out with "Like I'm gonna lose you" and then switched gears to join Charlie Puth for a duet for his hit single, "Marvin Gaye". Cute, right? Well, when they were finished their song, they starting sucking face and aggressively making-out with each other. How they didn't pass out from lack of air, is quite impressive actually. Their reps have denied that this indicates that they are dating. Meaning, the make-out sesh was just for show. Oh, Hollywood.

Serious Case of the Feels.

#1 - Celine Dion

With the unimaginable tragedy in Paris, Canadian icon Celine Dion sang a heartfelt rendition of "Hymne a L'amour" for all those affected, bringing many individuals to tears.
