VIDEO: Jake Gyllenhaal (literally) slays in Southpaw
Jake Gyllenhaal is one of those actors that commits and truly brings characters to life on the big screen. He's starred in countless films, like Donny Darko, Broke Back Mountain and Nightcrawler.
And he is beautiful.
Last year I interviewed Jake at TIFF for his role as Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler, a film about a hungry journalist in Los Angeles who will do anything to get the perfect shot. He lost 30 pounds for the role, channelling the character's coyote-like persona. In the film he is almost unrecognisable; gaunt, eyes wide and sunken in, with his clothes just hanging off him.
Ok, so he loses 30 pounds. Impressive. Right?
Get this. For his next film, Southpaw, he puts on 15 pounds of pure muscle to prepare for the role of boxing champion, Billy Hope.
How does one put on 15 pounds of pure muscle, you ask? The answer is a little more than intimidating: training 2x/day for 5 months. And probably NO cupcakes. Or chips. Or candy.
I had the chance to chat with both stars of the film, Jake Gyllenhaal and Canadian cutie, Rachel McAadams at the Toronto premiere of Southpaw.
