Since joining the Bell Media team three and a half years ago when my life changed after winning the MuchMusic VJ Search, I've expressed interested in becoming involved with We Day conferences around the country. I was fully aware that I would have to bide my time and hope that my name would eventually be thrown into the mix as one of the potential hosts... Well, guess what? Yep, I finally had the opportunity to hold the WE microphone in front of 16,000 students in Calgary last week and it was incredible!!
It was AH-MAZING you guys! The energy in the Saddledome was electric; 16,000 students earned their spots to get a freebie day away from school by volunteering both in their local communities and on a global scale. I shared the stage with Canadian artists Jully Black...
...and Tyler Shaw!
No clue what WE Day is? I got you.
WE Day is an extension of the "WE Movement" which brings people together and gives them the resources and tools to create change in their local and global communities, it is also a day filled with inspirational speakers like Chris Hadfield and Spencer West, and performances by Canadian artists like Classified and Tyler Shaw. Never in my life have I spoken in front of that many people, or volunteered my time in a way that merges my innate interests and my current job - it was such a memorable day and I can't wait to head to Vancouver later this week for round 2!
