Style Files: Road to the Oscars
With the biggest (and most controversial) award show happening this Sunday, let's take a walk down memory lane and look back at some of the best red carpet moments from 3 of tinsel town's leading ladies. The first will focus on edgy, the second a Canadian cutie and last but not least, my favorite fashionista from this year and the one I'm looking forward to most!
For those who need a little refresher on which ladies up for some hardware:

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
#1 - THE QUEEN OF EDGE; ROONEY MARA
She kicked off award season in high gear by rocking a nude coloured Alexander McQueen gown that matched her skin tone perfectly. Usually I'm not one for frills but the asymmetry of the straps and the detailing across the bodice keep it in the couture realm rather than dipping into Big Bird territory. Rooney is a perfect example of why simple should be embraced; the dress is not too loud, she isn't wearing 10 million dollars worth of borrowed jewellery or fake hair. What you notice, instead, is her.
In contrast to the soft neutrals at the Golden Globes, she did a 180 for the SAGs and went in a black Valentino gown with a daringly low plunging neckline. This could have gone classy to trashy real quick, but she stayed elegantly edgy with her hair slicked back in a simple ponytail which complemented her barely there make-up and bold brows beautifully. Best part? Her sister, Kate Mara rocked a matching Valentino dress.
#2 - CANADIAN CUTIE; RACHEL MCADAMS
Quintessential cutie patootie Rachel McAdams had a busy award season thanks to the flick Spotlight, and her fashion choices have been very lady-like so far. She donned the red carpet in LA for the Globes in a strapless floral Lanvin gown, a dress that looked great on her but didn't really do much for me... I'm typically not a fan of shiny fabric (except metallic-like fabric that shimmers like the Gucci dress Taylor Swift wore at the 2014 Grammy's) or floral patterns that remind me of holiday poinsettias BUT her contagious smile steals the spotlight which makes everything else a-ok.
She stepped things up a notch for the SAGS with this Elie Saab see-through dress. There is a lot to love with this entire look; staying true to her typical red carpet style it is still lady-like with the capped sleeves but we get a dose of sex-appeal and mystery with the mesh overlay, the strategically placed dark floral pattern and smouldery eye-make-up. To tie it all together, she keeps both her manicure and lips and soft nude. WELL DONE!
#3 - FAVOURITE FASHIONISTA OF 2016; Alicia Vikander
THIS. GIRL. Not only is she a talented actor nominated time and time again for her role in The Danish Girl, she also knocks it out of the park every time she steps foot on a red carpet. Alicia Vikander turned heads at the Golden Globes earlier this year in a white Valentino column dress that was business in the front and part in the back. Plus, I love the subtle pinstripe shimmer in the fabric and that it reminds me of overalls.
At the SAGS she reminded everyone that she is a lot more than just the "cute girl". This head to toe bedazzled Valentino gown is FIRE; it's arts & crafts meets high-fashion meets a rubics cube for the rich and famous. The thigh high slit is paired with long sleeves which keeps it from being too much like a teen pageant dress... and kudos for straight hair tucked behind the ears.
And then she switched things up again at the Critic's Choice Awards by wearing a dreamy butterfly-inspired Mary Katrantzou dress with an ethereal updo. It seems this girl can do no wrong when it comes to red carpet fashion, can't wait to see what she rocks this Sunday at the Academy Awards!
Looking forward to Sunday when these gals hit the red carpet!
