Academy Awards: Beauty breakdown

Very excited to announce that my make-up artist extraordinaire, Nikki, is now an official contributor for The Wilde Files! She was featured on last month's Behind The Lens series and going forward she will be helping us break down celeb beauty trends, tips on how to look our best and sharing all of her secrets about make-up.

Make-up is one thing on a regular day and a big thing on say, your wedding day….BUT the Oscars is a whole other slice of cake! There was a vast range of beauty looks on Sunday's Academy Awards from fresh dewy skin, to radiant cheeks, subtle smokey eyes, and a pop of colour on the lips. The women (and their make-up artists) came to SLAY this year. I usually prepare myself mentally to be overwhelmed by a ton of over the top contour or winged liner that dominate this huge glam event…but no…not this year…thankfully! It was refreshing to see such a fresh approach to clean, natural beauty.

Here are my top beauty looks from this years Academy Awards!

Her mint toned, airy, organic gown was breathtaking and her makeup was perfectly paired with her all over stylin' look. She rocked a super soft smokey eye and downplayed her lip with a moisturizing stain. LOVED IT!!!

TIP: try Tarte Cheek Stain & LipSurgence Power Pigment for Spring 2014, these juicy colours will be perfect for up coming makeup trends

This bad-ass babe killed it on the red carpet at the 2016 Oscars! Her gold embellished sequin gown reminded me of an oscar mermaid….is that weird? Margot's effortless hair and soft makeup allowed her to be red carpet gorgeous but still had her looking like "Margot". Not overdone yet clean and flawless!

That tangerine Stella McCartney dress against her warm sandy skin, bright punchy lip color, bronzed eye screamed elegance and class. (Makeup courtesy of @patrickta using @chaneloffical)

Bright skin, bold lip, and butterfly eyes.. What else could you ask for for a red carpet look? This makeup look does wonders for Naomi and also makes her look extremely youthful, and as we all know there are a lot of products out there that can age our skin. As we age, the purpose of makeup is to enhance our natural youth again…make us glow and radiate…and that is exactly what Naomi Watts achieved with this beauty look.

TIP: when wearing a piece of clothing that holds a lot of blue undertone, it is smart to pair your look with a blue undertone lip. (MAC Russian Red, impassioned, All Fired up)

All in all, I must say that these women have set the stage for our beauty trends for Spring/Summer 2016 and I am more than thrilled about how flawless they are. Whether it is for daytime or nighttime, these looks can work dressed up or dressed down.

Ladies, next time you are out trying to find a few new items for your spring/summer beauty bag...

  • Hydrating moisturizer
  • Mineral bronzer
  • Luminous blush
  • Smokey brown chubby pencil for an easy smoky eye
  • Juicy lip stain!
